A Night to Remember: Party for Langston

On Friday, February 21, the Oak Park Public Library and the Center for Success Network came together to host a truly unforgettable evening— A Party for Langston! This vibrant event, dedicated to celebrating Black History Month and honoring the life and literary legacy of Langston Hughes, brought the community together in a powerful and joyful way.

From the moment guests walked through the doors of the Oak Park Public Library, they were welcomed with a warm and lively atmosphere filled with music, books, and engaging activities. Families, book lovers, and community members of all ages gathered to commemorate the invaluable contributions of Black artists and writers, with a special emphasis on Hughes’ poetry and storytelling.

Attendees enjoyed an evening packed with fun and interactive experiences. From a live reading of “A Party for Langston” by Jason Reynolds to creative storytelling sessions for children, the event provided an opportunity for all to immerse themselves in the power of words. Local musicians from Accent Pontiac set the tone for the night with uplifting melodies, while attendees participated in book giveaways, crafts, and exciting raffle prizes.

This after-hours celebration also served as the perfect kickoff for Black Children’s Book Week and March is Reading Month—a reminder of the importance of representation in literature and the joy of reading.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Oak Park Public Library for their partnership and unwavering support in making this event a success. A huge thank you to all the families and individuals who joined us, making the night even more special. Your enthusiasm and engagement are what make community events like these so impactful!

If you missed Party for Langston, don’t worry—this is just the beginning! Stay connected with us for more upcoming events that celebrate literacy, culture, and the power of storytelling. Let’s continue to uplift Black voices and honor their contributions all year long.
