Winning Move: Mentor Mixer!
By: Thu Tran, Events and Coordination Manager
“At Center for Success Network (CFSN), we believe our values of community, connection, diversity, and growth provide a strong foundation for building an equitable space where our team, students, families, volunteers, and community are valued, respected, and supported.”
The Winning Move Mentor Mixer at our Detroit Hub was a resounding success! This lively evening was filled with board games, laughter, and conversations that truly exemplified our values at CFSN.
Community
We welcomed a diverse group of attendees, including mentors, community members, families, and friends. Special thanks to our generous donors—Firekeepers Casino Hotel, Epiphany Studios, Topgolf, Better Made Snacks, and Wines for Humanity—whose support was instrumental in making this event possible. We all came together to support our mission of uniting literacy and community to empower students in their journey of education.
Connection
One of the highlights was our interactive icebreaker game, “We Do Connect Four.” It fostered meaningful conversations and connections among attendees. As the Events and Coordination Manager, I learned that it is important to find a balance between monitoring event logistics while making time to engage with your attendees. At the event, I was able to meet a few of our attendees and learned about how they heard about the Center and got involved. Hearing their stories and experiences reinforced the importance of our mission.
Diversity
CFSN is committed to creating inclusive and accessible spaces for everyone. We embrace and celebrate the unique backgrounds and identities of our community members. Our team ensured that all attendees felt welcome by addressing any individual accommodations and worked to offer a variety of food options including vegetarian, vegan, and allergen-friendly choices.
Growth
We have a commitment to continuous improvement and development as individuals and as an organization. During the event, I tried to take notes of anything I heard from our team or attendees—what they enjoyed and what we should include next time. After every event, we gather feedback through surveys and team debriefs to see where we can improve and continue to enhance our future events.
Planning for an event takes a lot of thought and time, and sometimes it can be overwhelming. However, behind this 2-hour event was a great team who collaborated and problem solved with me as things came up. Virtual events have their own unique aspects, but I always find there is a special joy to in-person gatherings. Our Winning Move Mentor Mixer was another memorable CFSN event and I cannot wait for the next one!
