Volunteer with CFSN!

Volunteer mentors are the foundation of our organization. After completing our 90-minute mentor training, and a 2-hour Mentoring for Equity Workshop, mentors are paired with a student at one of our 12 locations. Mentors are currently virtual only, and are given all the resources they’ll need to run a successful session with their student. Sessions include a virtual read aloud together, an online literacy activity, and lots of time to build relationships with their students. Mentoring sessions will be 30 - 45 minutes long and include 4 parts - energize and goal setting, reading a book, literacy activity, and closing and reflection. Our experienced staff are present the entire session in case a mentor has a question or needs some assistance. We will run a background check for every volunteer.

As a volunteer we will ask you to...

  • Encourage students with positive words.

  • Be a supportive advocate for our students.

  • Encourage students to challenge themselves and enjoy learning.

  • Communicate how the session went with a simple feedback form.

  • Start and end on time.

If you think you’re ready to start the process of becoming a mentor with CFSN, the first step is to check out the different ways to volunteer with CFSN below, and then sign up whichever one fits your interests best! Our Team will be in contact with you shortly to get you started in the process.

We hope you’ll join us in this amazing journey of learning and literacy success!
